I'm on the "I would take Scoot over Wembanyema" hill. Now granted I am a moron who has never seen either play...however my assessment is solely based on my skepticism that Victor is going to stay healthy. If I had the 1 pick I would definitely try to move down to 2 for some extra value

18

u/6lackDino Raptors Oct 04 '22

I don't think the #2 pick would swap with #1 because then #1 would know that the team with #1 doesn't really want to pick the consensus #1 pick so why give up draft capital for that?

I could understand 1 for 3 or something along those lines.

27

u/cortesoft [GSW] Chris Mullin Oct 04 '22

It would be because they know if they don't trade to #1, the #1 would be traded to someone else and their pick would be gone.

8

u/n0stylist Oct 04 '22

Not as much leverage but can be done if you put out the smoke signal that you're ready to trade to 3 or lower. Frankly if I'm not able to hoodwink an extra pick out of someone I'd just take Scoot at 1

4

u/Tonkathedog Bulls Oct 04 '22

If they really want to move out from number 1 then number 2 might be interested to make sure nobody else behind them can jump them. If whoever has the first pick makes it known they only want scoot then yeah their leverage is completely gone

All Wemby is saying is that he deserves to be picked first. If he gets injured or otherwise doesn’t go first, he can still say “yeah but I deserved to.” And then we can’t even say whether he was wrong for like 3-4 years because unless one of them is a mega-bust, we won’t know how good they’ll actually be anyway.

7

u/Great_Chairman_Mao Warriors Oct 04 '22

Fast forward 9 years. Scoot’s team beats Wemby’s team for the third time in the finals.

“Wemby is really a great player. If I was never born, he would deserve a championship.”

16

u/Few_Mulberry7175 [HOU] Kevin Porter Jr Oct 03 '22

It’s not even that unlikely of an outcome. If Scoot really improves his jumper and Wemby struggles with injury like in previous years that would really murk his place as consensus 1st overall

14

u/DoveFood Trail Blazers Oct 04 '22 edited Oct 04 '22

It’s an extremely unlikely scenario unless Wemby gets a serious injury. You can say that about any prospect ever though, so it’s not really worthy to bring up.

Wemby is as for sure of a #1 pick before the season even started since… honestly, probably Oden.

I’m french and it’s actually the opposite. A lot of people here hates confidence. If you’re really good at something don’t say it because If you do you instantly become an arrogant prick for most. For example a Tim Duncan type of guy would be way more appreciated than a Kobe type of guy. We say confident players like Kobe and MJ have that American Mentality

Listen to the real GM radio podcast with Danny Leroux who recently went to one of Victor's games in France and talked about how during his workouts Vic was working on shooting 3s off the dribble before the game. Not saying it's something he will do immediately but it's clearly something he is working on to be a part of his repertoire in the future.

Pushing Chet to PF might be good for him long term. It’s a less physical position and he can stay healthier longer. All of them can shoot so it’s not like the lane is going to be super clogged.

What’s the deal with Scoot? Dude can’t shoot (17% from three and 77% from the line) and he’s average to a bit below average height for a PG (6’2). Just not seeing the hype

This sounds like something that would come out of 2K Career mode

Ironic because I’d put 100 dollars on scoot having a better career 🤷🏾‍♂️

Yeah, with Victor it is all about being able to stay healthy.

u/sorrywontdoitagain Hawks Oct 03 '22

I mean, you'd literally just be betting on Victor getting injured. Even in a world where Victor ends up with a 0th percentile offensive outcome, just his defense+lob threat ability would make him an All-Star.

lol Vic buttering up Scoot early. Love the mind games.

Edit: kinda backhanded compliment as well since he implies Scoot won't be #1 pick
